    My Passion

I have always been an “active” person and find it hard to sit still. I class myself as a cyclist these days but have always enjoyed endurance events such as Ironman, Ultra marathons and adventure races all be it at a slower pace now. I enjoy seeing what your body and mind is capable in accomplishing.

    My Favourite Ride

Owning a cycling tour company has it’s advantages! You get the opportunity to ride around the world. One of my first rides in Europe was the Passo Dello Stelvio (Italy), it is not an easy ride but a spectacular one and has been one of my favourite rides ever sine then. Any day you reach the summit is a good day! You will always get a great coffee in Bormio as well!

    Guiding Since

    2008

What I enjoy about my job!

The best part of being a guide is seeing the look on our rider’s faces when they reach the summit of a climb like Alpe d’Huez, Mont Ventoux etc. Regardless of how fast you ride the climb the look is the same, pure excitement and joy! It is great helping riders experience the famous climbs of the Grand Tours.

    My Ride

Cannondale Evo (di2), fantastic bike for going up and down hills.

My Favourite Ride / Experience / Memory

      My cycling background?

I started dating a fourth-generation cyclist in March 1997 (and later married in 2003). I  supported his passion for all things cycling by wearing many hats – I was the driver, chef, barista, photographer, event organiser, support staff, tour manager and of course, the biggest fan. I encouraged my husband to continue following his dreams, which led us to Bikestyle Tours. We now work as a team in running cycling trips in Europe and Australia for other passionate cyclists and cycling fans. I also ride in my own time, though I’m more of a commuter.

        My Passion

I’ve been lucky to have been working with Bikestyle Tours since 2008, working away in the background on trip planning, sourcing hotels and planning ride routes. Occasionally I’m allowed out of the office and on my bike and love the chance to explore new places.

        My Favourite Ride

Tough one, I’ve done quite a few. I’d have to say that surprisingly it’s not in Europe, but in the USA, the ride along the Big Sur coastline in California. It’s got everything. It’s not flat so there is a challenge, jaw-dropping scenery around every bend and every time I have ridden it a tailwind!

What I enjoy about my job!

My greatest job satisfaction comes from meeting the guests at the end of their trips and having them tell me what a great time they had with us.

        My Ride

Got more than one bike (of course), but my current favourite is my titanium Lynskey road bike. Not sure why, maybe it’s just the old school charm of metal?

        Where is home?

        Melbourne, Australia

        My cycling background?

I started riding a bike as an adult over 30 years ago and must have clocked up countless thousands of kms. I’ve never raced (fear of falling) but used to do quite a bit of long distance riding in the early days. Now I just ride for pleasure, stress relief and to kid myself I’m not getting older.

I genuinely love helping others! I am happiest when I help improve an experience for someone. I am strongest at planning the logistics for each day on tour. When at home I enjoy camping with family and friends and jumping on the bike to explore natural surrounds.

          My Favourite Ride

Without doubt I love riding in Europe; the country roads and scenery always offer something unique. My favourite climb (so far) is Colle delle Finestre, literally meaning ‘windows’ or as I like to refer to it as the ‘dirty’ finestre. If you combine all the roads you can ride in Europe and put them in one climb, you get Colle delle Finestre! Including a bit of dirt.

What I enjoy about my job!

I get a buzz from helping clients achieve their goals. Riding with and the back markers on any climb is a special day for me. The culture for cycling in Europe is so different to Australia. I enjoy paying attention to the little changes in the environment and landscape as you ride – especially around alpine areas.

          My Ride

At home I ride a Cannondale Evo (di2) on the road and a Cannondale Jekyll (lefty) on trails. While in Europe I ride a Pinarello Prince (alloy frame). I like traditional frame geometries!

          Where is home?

          Brisbane, Australia

          My cycling background?

I started cycling late, after being involved in many other sports. I was a strong swimmer and good footballer (Australian Rules) as a kid. Some knee injuries in football made me look toward triathlons. It turned out that my knees didn’t enjoy the running, and I don’t like the isolation of swimming … so now I ride! More recently, I enjoy mountain biking.

I love riding my bike every day that I can and I love riding it with however wants to roll with me.

                  My Favourite Ride

How do choose a favourite ride when so many mountains in France, Italy and Spain are incredible but my all time favourite and the big one I have so much respect for is the Big V – Mt Ventoux – I have climbed her at least 9 times with our clients and each time so incredibly rewarding for them and inspirational from my point of view watching their challenge and reward when they arrive at the summit – makes me tingle every time I think about it……..

                    My Favourite Ride

I’ve been lucky enough to have ridden my bike in many different countries. However, it is my hometown ride from Pt Lonsdale along the Great Ocean Road to Lorne and back that I look forward to riding every Christmas. It’s got everything; long flat sections along the ocean, undulations, sharp and steep hills through the forests, plenty of wildlife and of course the wind! Which makes for a very scenic and challenging ride.

Also being able to share my cycling experiences and advice, so that others can improve and increase their ability to get the most out of their experience on the bike.

                    My cycling background?

I started out track cycling in 2003 and after a short stint on a tandem as a pilot with a vision impaired cyclist, we qualified for the Athens Paralympics in 2004. This experience was amazing and was my launchpad into professional cycling on the road. In 2005 I headed to Europe with the Australian Institute of Sport as a sprinter on the National Women’s Road Cycling Team. There were many highs and lows whilst being on the team and after three years of ‘living the dream’ as a professional cyclist, I decided to move onto my next challenge.

I still race regularly at home and over the past three years have become addicted to cyclo-cross. It’s been a refreshing and awesome way to fall in love with cycling all over again.

Whether it’s a morning ride with friends, a weekend surf at a favourite break or a good gym session, the endorphin kick is always the same. The special friendships and general health benefits are the very rewarding natural spinoffs.

                      My Favourite Ride

It’s too hard to pick just one favourite ride, my most enjoyable and memorable rides in France have been:

                      • Alps – The scenic ride between Huez Village and Allemond
                      • The Tarn Gorge is beautiful and peaceful
                      • Pyrenees – Col de Portet d’Aspet to Col des Ares, beautiful lower altitude forests
                      • Pyrenees – Col de Soulor to Col d’Aubisque, sweeping craggy ride with tunnels, mountain ponies and Alpaca

My favourite Brisbane hometown ride is Mt Nebo to Mt Glorious and descending to Samford.

Meeting like-minded cyclists and helping them achieve their Tour de France goals is a mutually rewarding experience that carries memories beyond the few short weeks that we ride together. Whether it’s that special photograph we arrange or the conquering of one of the Classic Climbs, the smiles of success are priceless.

I really enjoy the challenges, both mentally and physically, that climbing mountains in France provides. On the bike there is nothing better than exploring new roads, there’s no better way to see/explore a country than on a bike.

                        My Favourite Ride

Where do I start? I’ve always said it’s impossible to ride anywhere in France and not be amazed. The Alps are brilliant, the Pyrenees is brilliant, Provence is brilliant, the Central Massif is brilliant. Picking a favorite is hard but I’d have to go with Col d’Izoard. A little bit of everything, hairpins, forest area and the “Casse Deserte” at the summit. Beautiful views from the top and a great coffee stop at the Refuge Napoleon du Col d’Izoard.

Cycling is in the blood. I’ve grown up around bikes, some of my earliest memories are of watching my dad doing pre-season overhauls and cycletouring holidays. Now I just love to get on my bike and explore, gravel adventures or hilly training rides, it’s all good.

                          My Favourite Ride
The French Pyrenees are a long time favourite. During a childhood cycletouring holiday we rode Tourmalet and Aspain on consecutive days with fully loaded paniers and all our camping gear. The experience left its mark. The Col de Tourmalet, has that extra dimension. Its Tour de France history, the scenery, atmosphere and local culture all come together to make it an unforgettable experience for any cyclist.
